Wil and Jennifer Caton

Bar C Ranch

Wil and Jennifer Caton started the Bar C Ranch in 2000 when they moved to Clarke County Virginia in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They have both worked with animals for many years and Jennifer has a degree in Animal Science from Virginia Tech. The Bar C Ranch is operated with the idea that is important for people to learn about the animals with whom we share the earth. The Catons hope that by having the opportunity to meet some of these animals personally, people may develop a stronger interest in and sense of responsibility for the world around them. It is their pleasure to share their love and knowledge of animals with people of all ages. All of the animals come from a variety of backgrounds. Many were born on the farm, some come from other farms or zoos and some came to us from rescue organizations or from homes that could no longer keep them. Whatever their history, we love them all and enjoy sharing our lives with them.

Animals Supporting Recovery and Mental Wellness

According to the National Institute of Health (2018), research on human-animal interactions is still relatively new although; there have been studies reporting animals can serve as a source of comfort and support. In support of these studies, they have demonstrated that interacting with animals has shown to decrease levels of cortisol (a stress-related hormone) and lower blood pressure. Other studies have found that animals can reduce loneliness, increase feelings of social support, and boost your mood.

For these reasons, we invite you to take immersive and interactive tour with us around the Bar C Ranch, meeting a variety of animals and learning more about each. Sightings may include Llamas, Goats, Kangaroos, Camels, Porcupines, and more!

Get a behind the scenes look at life on the farm. It is a source of constant joy to get to know the many different individual personalities and to share these incredible animals with other. We look forward to seeing you there and meeting these friendly faces.
